"I met Shirley whilst undertaking clinical supervision training of which she was a facilitator. I had previously held senior nursing positions in other organisations and always had clinical supervision to explore and reflect upon my practice. When I met Shirley I liked her use of humour in engaging people, her honest reflections of her observations in others and her capacity to challenge perspectives of others and keep them engaged. I asked if she had capacity to supervise me and was open from the start I held lots of passion for my work, she agreed. Since we started working together I've felt supported and reassured that she will provide me with critical constructive reflections for me to consider, and tease out of me not only the challenges but the positive aspects of my own work in a balanced way. I'm hoping to continue this essential relationship with Shirley for as long as we work together".
"I have been having clinical supervision with Shirley for five years and am so grateful to her for the differences it has made to my personal and professional growth. For me, clinical supervision has been pivotal to growing and becoming a better clinician, and it's been effective for so many reasons, many of them specific to Shirley. For me, supervision isn't just about someone prompting you to reflect.
Shirley's created a safe place where I can be vulnerable and brutally honest - with her and with myself. She has an enormous range of strategies from getting me to the crux of the matter, and for finding solutions within myself. Honestly, as a mental health nurse, sometimes I think I can anticipate where she's going with an idea or line of questioning but she always surprises me with an idea or line of questioning and that's what makes her supervision work.
Her approach is dynamic, responsive, non-judgemental and usually fun as well.
Shirley is fantastic. Her personality is amazing, and her expansive skills as a supervisor never cease to challenge and support me".
"I have been in group clinical supervision under the guidance of Shirley now since 2012. During that time I have had some of the hardest times in my work life to manage and if I didn't have the group around me I don't know what would have happened to me. This was down to the way in which Shirley manages the group. She always keeps the focus on the person who is receiving the supervision. She brings a different approach to each session including role play, toys to represent you and your feelings and many other fun and innovative ways to make what can sometimes be a dry subject more interesting. She is always very professional in how the group changes. When members leave and new members start, Shirley always consults each existing member to make sure they are comfortable. Supervision in Shirley's group has given me a great sense of clarity in my professional life. I have made some amazing choices because of the care and compassion shown in the group. I would recommend anyone about thinking about joining a group with Shirley to do it. You'll have a laugh, a cry and a safe space to open up".
"Finding a skilled clinical supervisor who you click with is not an easy task but vitally important. Since engaging in clinical supervision with Shirley I have provided myself with protected time each month to reflect upon my nursing practice. The clinical supervision process not only happens in the room with Shirley but for days and weeks following the session. I am constantly provided with food for thought whilst processing the conversations we have shared. If you are currently seeking a highly skilled effective clinical supervisor I strongly urge you to reach out to Shirley and arrange an appointment, I am so glad I did!!"
